It’s All About History

Bruce Beach, Publisher

 Theresa Lister, Editor

Please excuse the lack of information on the new website.  Other pressing projects at home has take priority over this website. Little by little, I’ll get new items added.

Our only purpose is to bring alive history of days long ago. Throughout American History, so much had given us our heritage, way of life or entertainment.

I personally have so many interests in history, it’s hard for me to focus only one or two subjects. Being raised by a mother who was totally consumed by the Oregon Trail, has shaped my interest in history. Playing with toy trains all my life has spurred my interest in railroads. Serving 25 1/2 years in the United States Navy and among the amount of military service and history of my family, has given me reason to research my family military history. The love of the various entertainment venues, during time without Television, especially color TV. How did Americans entertain themselves?

Click on any photo and it will pop up in the center of the page. Double click on that photo to enlarge even more.

So much of American History, outside of the state of Kansas, has kept me busy trying to learn it all. Goulash page, is just a collection of anything that I find interesting.

Hopefully from the various pages of this paper. To submit items of interest, I wish for you to subscribe to KHQG. No information given will ever be given out. It’s only for us to verify who we are dealing with and to return communications’.

Not to say that  we can’t talk about past history political topics.

We will be placing various advertising or articles from old magazines or newspapers. Listing their publication’s information.

We will be selling various current advertising ads,Tra

Marshall County Historical Society

Railroads crisscross all the way across Kansas. So many towns were at one time served by more than one railroad and now is served by none.

We all at one time or another, we have fallen in love with the various types of devises that move us. My favorite type is trains or railroad. Either models or the real ones, they excite me. But get me talking about futurists or concept cars, it has my full attention. On the Goulash page will be available for such talk.

More on Marshall County Historical Society on Rail Heritage page.

Moo, I can see YOU!!!

Goulash Page

This page is just a place to put any item of interest. It will be something of history, but not necessarily of Kansas or America’s history.

It’s just something fun.

To be or not to be, that is the question of history.

Why is history important to us, why do we bother with remembering it?

So many times I have run across people who ask me? “Why do you bother learning about history?”  “It’s over and done with.” The answer is so simple for me, “Because I enjoy the search and learning about life prior to my life.” How did people live, how did they entertained themselves? How did our country developed to what it is today? My family a huge supporters of the military. My grandfather was part of the Great White Fleet that sailed around the world. My father was stationed on the USS Nashville cruiser during WWII. It was General MacArthur flagship, till it was put out of commission from a Kamikaze  plane hit. My father’s cousin was on the Yorktown aircraft carrier that we lost during the battle of Midway. I have cousins that served in Vietnam, other ones that served over 20 years and retired, myself included.

Let me get off my family’s history, let’s talk about the more important issues concerning history. We all have seen the repeat of various history events that reoccur. How will we be able to know how to handle certain situations, if we hadn’t learn from the first time. We burn our hand on a hot skillet, so we don’t handle it the same way the second time. With the problems of leaders in charge wanting world domination. We seen it with the Persian Gulf War, and now we are seeing it with Russia and possible with China. From WWII, we saw what the outcome was from that.

Last but not least, we all seem to want to know where we came from, our Heritage. Where from and how did our ancestors arrive? Back to my family history, my father’s family lived through the depression of the 1930’s. Where my grandfather was very poor and had 8 children. My father and his next older brother had to hunt, fish and anything else that could help the family survive. There may come a time again, where we will have to defend for ourselves. Look at the past, it could happen again

Family videos Should be saved for future generations.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing John Hermes that does my video conversation to digital. He is by far the best price and never had any problems with his work. He usually has them back in the mail within a day or two after receiving them. Don’t wait until the films or VHS tapes go bad.

So much to learn, so little time to learn it.

As we are winding down 2023, we have had many head shaking adjustments to make in everyday living. Living through the Pandemic, it’s so hard to believe the changes in life we had to make. With the event of 9/11 so many years ago, we are constantly reminded of the situation at our door steps. With Racial profiling and hate crimes are filling our news everyday. We have to remind ourselves that people that have gone before us, endured so many more hardships than we are living today. I really try and keep an open mind, for the plights of various groups of people and their suffering. To study their stories, may we come to the conclusion that we are only human and we have the power to change to a better world, than before.

So Sorry for the lack of start-up articles, videos and photos.

With a new program to learn and being caught with my pants down with the need of photos scanned and articles ready for placement, I’m running behind. I as the Publisher, have well over 40,000 slides, negatives and photos to share (reason for this website). I only want to share what I have and learned. In the past 40+ years, I have come across so much with Kansas and National history. This is a hobby, not a business. I currently have 97 videos on YouTube, but could have over 5,000 if I would sit down and work on them. I’ve recently came across four 7 inch films of rare railroad videos that I didn’t know I had (currently being digitized). When I have videos from a certain area, I always try and contact the local historical society and get them a copy. If my house would burn down, they are all gone with the wind.

My number one goal is to share what I have and make connections with other people with the same interests. I am members of several other websites that talk about history, but if you’re not on them 24/7, you miss so much, but they are great sites. This is the reason for being a quarterly website.

Another reason for this site not being filled, not being a techie, having to learn the various operations of this program (just sweep around me, I’ll catch up). Also to add to time, yard work and other grandfather duties, takes me away from working on this site.
